What?
TWICE annually organizes a special celebration
of the Michigan Week for 3rd classes.
Students use two-way interactive video
to present to each other about their areas
of Michigan. Students exchange information
about land forms, farming, grange halls,
shipwrecks, their towns and cities, and
much more. |
 |
Why?
The purpose of this celebration
is to celebrate Michigan studies and
to facilitate student learning about
diverse areas of Michigan.
This project started as the the Michigan
Collaborative during the 1997-1998 school
year. In that first year, the response
was overwhelming from the teachers and
the students involved and the project
has grown since. TWICE began coordinating
the project in the 2004-2005 school
year. Come join us this year! |
 |
Who?
This project is open to 3rd classes
in public and private schools in Michigan.
However, you must have access to ISDN
(H.320) or IP (H.323) codec equipment
to participate. |
 |
Cost?
This project involves matching
classrooms with other schools in Michigan.
Connectivity fees are the only cost to
this project and individual schools are
responsible for the long distance charges. |
 |
When?
All connections will take place during
May 3-14, 2010. When you register,
you must choose a time and date to connect.
This information will be used to match
you with another class. Schedule the
connection for 45 minutes. You
must commit to participate the allotted
time.
- Plan for a 15 minute audio/video
check before the connection starts.
- 30 mintues: each class presents
for 15 minutes
- 15 minutes to exchange information
about your school and community and
to ask each other questions.

How?
First check with your school's technology
coordinator to see if you have access
to the technology. Schools must have
access to ISDN (H.320) or IP (H.323)
codec equipment to participate.
Get Verified! The verification
process verifies the type of connection
(IP or ISDN) and that videoconference
equipment is available in the building.
Verification is ongoing. Buildings must be verified
before teachers from that building can
register to participate in MI Week Connections.
If buildings have already been
verified for Read
Around the Planet, they will be
considered verified for this project
as well.
Teacher
opens March 1 and closes April 9.
Why Verification? The verification
process helps us assure that you are
matched so that your connection will
actually work. The verification process
does not eliminate the need for a test
call. Each partner should still test
with their matched school to make sure
the connection will work in May.
Verified Schools should REGISTER
participating teachers by
April 9, 2010. We will then match
your class according to your time and
grade requests and e-mail you the information
about the class you will be connecting
with the week of April 16. This will
give you time to do a test with the
other class site and be ready to connect
May 3-14, 2010. |
